Powers Discusses Tracking COVID-19 on AZPM
On a new episode of Arizona Science from Arizona Public Media, ECE Professor Linda Powers discussed how technology can help scientists track down the characteristics of COVID-19.
"Each microbe has a different characteristic about it, and so, if one would like to be able to identify them clearly, you have to consider what they are and how they operate," Powers said.
Powers said there is a need to build a sensor system that can identify the chemistry, morphology or physical characteristics of microbes that can affect people's health.
"I think we can do this with the coronavirus," Powers said. "We need to do some work in order to do this, but I think we can use it, we can capture it and identify what it is with the technology we currently have, with the addition of the specific identification we need for the coronavirus."
