Ditzler's NSF Award Featured by Pennsylvania College of Technology
ECE assistant professor Gregory Ditzler recently earned a five-year, $500,000 Faculty Early Career Development Award from the National Science Foundation to support his machine learning research. The CAREER award is the NSF's most prestigious award in support of exceptional early-career faculty. Ditzler's work is all about developing mathematical models and algorithms that computers use to recognize patterns and identify relevant features.
The Pennsylvania College of Technology, where Ditzler earned his bachelor’s degree in electronics and computer engineering technology, highlighted his achievements both in and out of the classroom.
“The award is about more than setting you up for five years of funding,” Ditzler said in the article. “It’s about how it sets you up for the next 10 or 15 years of your career and where your research leads.”
Ditzler describes his work as “the process of building mathematical models that can learn from data without being explicitly programmed, so the model will be able to make inferences when presented with new input.”
The NSF award allows Ditzler to enhance his classes with additional research and collaborative learning opportunities.
