Sawyer named Fulbright scholar to study early cancer detection
ECE assistant professor Travis Sawyer will soon travel the world to conduct vital research and strengthen global relationships as a Fulbright Scholar.
ECE assistant professor Travis Sawyer is one of seven University of Arizona faculty members selected as part of the Fulbright Scholar program. Together with collaborators at Utsunomiya University in Japan, he will research endoscopic technology for the early detection of gastrointestinal cancers.
“Now more than ever, it’s important to facilitate international cooperation, and scientific research is an avenue to strengthen those partnerships," Sawyer said. "I’m excited to participate in the Fulbright program and to have an opportunity to contribute to that effort in the context of optics and photonics.”
Sawyer also serves as an assistant professor of optical science in the James C. Wyant College of Optical Sciences.
