Message From the Department Head - Fall 2023
It has been an extraordinary year for the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
We are thrilled to announce the successful launch of our new Computer Science and Engineering program. The forward-looking curriculum is designed to bridge the talent gap in computing, train our future industry leaders and drive research for next-generation technologies.
Over the past two years our tremendous growth has been supported with the addition of nine new faculty members, and we are gearing up to hire 20-25 more. This expansion has been spurred on by the increased demand from our industry partners and a rising number of students interested in our programs.
Our students and faculty continue to earn prestigious awards and accolades for excellence. Professor and vice president of semiconductor manufacturing Liesl Folks is spearheading a transformative, multimillion-dollar state initiative to enhance our nano-fabrication capabilities. Folks and Kathleen Melde, professor and associate dean of faculty affairs, were also recognized as 2023 Women of Impact by the University of Arizona.
What an exciting time it is for ECE at the University of Arizona. You can find more updates about our important work on the department news page. For more information or potential partnerships, please don't hesitate to reach out to me at my email below.
