Incoming National Merit Scholar pursues ECE major
Kennedy Thompson is heading to the University of Arizona to major in ECE this fall.
An incoming National Merit Scholar to the University of Arizona plans to major in electrical and computer engineering, according to the Queen Creek Tribune.
Kennedy Thompson, from Casteel High School in Queen Creek, said she was inspired to pursue programming after joining her high school’s robotics team.
“I found such a wonderful community that I hadn’t found anywhere else,” Thompson told the Tribune. “I really found my people in robotics.”
She considered many colleges and originally planned to attend Purdue University but said it was too expensive, and ultimately decided that staying in the state was the better financial choice. During her U of A visit, she toured the engineering buildings and was impressed with the programs offered.
“I ended up touring ASU and the U of A campus, and I completely loved the U of A campus."
