Michael Wu highlights programs in Online Engineering Programs
Michael Wu, the Thomas R. Brown Leadership Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering and ECE department head, oversees online programming for the department.
Hongyi “Michael” Wu, the Thomas R. Brown Leadership Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering and ECE department head, was featured in an Online Engineering Programs article about online programs in Arizona.
"One thing I wish the public understood is that not all engineering programs are created equal when it comes to online education and that’s a good thing. Some areas of engineering simply require heavy hands-on lab work that must be done in person. But others, especially in computing and high-tech fields, are very well suited for high-quality online delivery," he told OnlineEngineeringPrograms.com.
The University of Arizona offers online engineering programs in electrical and computer engineering, computer science and engineering and software engineering. Students in the online programs follow the same curriculum and learn from the same faculty as their on-campus counterparts. Wu said this allows students who are working, caregiving or serving in the military opportunities to pursue an engineering degree.
“For many students, it expands access to high-tech careers without requiring them to relocate or pause their lives,” said Wu. “And it prepares them just as strongly to contribute to the companies and industries shaping our future.”
