David Ebert is an internationally recognized leader in artificial intelligence and data science, with extensive expertise in visual analytics, explainable AI, and human–computer teaming. He currently serves as the strategic lead for AI and data science initiatives at the University of Arizona, reporting to the Senior Vice President for Research, Innovation & Impact. He is also a tenured faculty member in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

In his university-wide role, Ebert shapes Arizona’s AI and data science ecosystem. He advises on the computer science engineering program, as well as research strategy and faculty recruitment. He is also playing a key role in launching the university’s new Data Science Institute and coordinating interdisciplinary AI and health initiatives across campus to address national research priorities.

Prior to joining the University of Arizona, Ebert held the Gallogly Chair Professorship at the University of Oklahoma. He has also held leadership positions at Purdue University and served as the director of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Center of Excellence. A Fellow of the IEEE, Dr. Ebert’s contributions to the field continue to shape the future of human-centered AI and data-driven innovation.
