Abstract: Consumer electronic devices have seen an astonishing growth in everyday use the past few years. The growth happens synergistically with technical improvements in many fields very close to computer engineers and scientists, and electrical engineers. In this talk we will explore (1) key elements that are critical for designing devices, (2) usage scenarios and performance requirements, (3) challenges in designing systems related to hardware and software engineering to meet the requirements, and (4) traditional and emerging trends in engineering approaches.

Bio: Sudha received his PhD in electrical engineering at the University of Arizona with a dissertation on dynamical neural networks. He started his industrial work in December 1990 with IBM and built his career primarily working in microprocessor architecture and SoC design at Digital Equipment Corp (now part of Intel), Sun Microsystems (Oracle), LSI Logic, and Nvidia. Sudha was also an associate professor of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Queen’s University in Kingston, ON, Canada from 2003 to 2005, leading the computer architecture group. Sudha is a co-inventor of 25 patents and co-author on over 60 publications. He has been with Nintendo Technology Development in Redmond, WA, working on research and development of Nintendo gaming systems since 2011.
